Jumper Xiake 800 Flight Controller

So, if I understand correctly Da_Chef & Target0815

1/ In 4.2.2 with DJI I can display an OSD in the DJI goggles via MSP by setting

OSD_TYPE = 3, SERIAL4_PROTOCOL = 33, & MSP_OPTIONS = 0 & use the DJI internal OSD

or

2/ Upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3.3 & use DisplayPort ( “canvas mode” ) by setting

set OSD_TYPE = 5 , SERIAL4_PROTOCOL = 42 & OSDx_TXT_RES to set SD or HD fonts & disabling the DJI internal OSD

?

I didn’t try the second, but your first option works fine for me. When I trust the Xiake a little bit more, I will drop an O3 on it ( might get tricky with the current draw) and will try then probably try the second option.

Thanks. BTW I have run many vista’s with power via vbat & TX/RX from the board without issue on F411’s in INAV and/or from the balance lead without an FC (3-4S). I am not sure why everyone gets so hung up on supplying them via, say 9V. I’ve blown many an analog VTX but the Vista is some awesomely reliable hardware IMHO and I doubt the O3 is any less robust.

I agree. But I’m not sure if it’s worth it to put an O3 on it. It was quite unstable in my last flight (it’s my first fixed wing, I come from the multi rotor side of the hobby) and I planned to use it for cinematic filming. Let’s see.

For me it’s just the convenience of not having to run a wire back to raw battery power. I already have the correct wire harness to go between the O3 and FC so I used that. Running the O3 (or other camera) off of Vbat would require running a wire back to the power distribution board.

I haven’t flow the aircraft with the O3 yet so the O3 has stayed in “low power” mode while on the bench. So far the O3 hasn’t caused any power issues but I haven’t tested this will flying yet.

The nose requires significant modification to get any of the DJI cameras to fit.

Not really for me - didn’t have to change a lot. That would have been different for an O3 air unit.
Remarks regarding the O3: I had massive issues with Diatone FCs (H743 mk4 and F722 App). Maybe the BEC was overloaded, or the electromagnetic noise was too much. It works fine with a HGLRC F722mini on a Rekon6. On VBatt & with the build in TVS diode.

Have you had any issues with the GPS/Magnetometer that close to the Airunit?

Not with the GPS. There is no magnetometer. I might change that, but the build in gps got very quickly a GPS lock.

Wow, that looks great.

I just checked with my Air Unit and you’re right, it does fit. I just had to be a bit forceful to get it in. Thanks for setting me straight!

I’ll use the Air Unit in my second aircraft.

The O3 camera will need some adjustments, but I guess that won’t be too difficult.

Correct.

I printed this to get more battery height room. Which it has, so thanks. However, the version on thingiverse doesn’t seem to match your photo .Do you have more up to date files?

Yes, it is however just a rough version to test with the old air unit. The posted version is compatible with the vista and O3. I use currently (till I’m sure it is worth it) a full size air unit for testing. I will probably also do a more refined version for that. I will post it here again when it’s finished.

Small remark for all who want to use an O3 wit the Xiake 800: the BEC seems not to be capable of powering it. I was not able to get even the led to turn on.

I will add an external one.
Be also careful - might have fried the build in BEC for the air unit.

Even in low power mode? (The O3 will stay in lower power mode until it receives a message from the FC that the aircraft is armed.)

Make sure you have the pins right in your wires.

I’ve used the O3 with one of my Xiake FCs several times and it appears to work fine in low power mode. I haven’t tried in while armed yet.

Mine died & provides no voltage anymore. I added now a BEC (12V 2A). Now everything works fine (with a vista). Including OSD. I will switch tomorrow to an O3.

I think I connected it correctly. In addition: the O3 should then have died. I tested it afterwards, but it still works fine.

Maybe you’re right and I got it wrong. I will check it tomorrow again.

Darn it, it looks like your wire harness has the wires reversed.

I know it’s too late for you but in hopes no one else has the same problem, here are the pinouts for the O3 and Xiake flight controller.

I use the cable below. This cable came with flight controller I had previously purchased.

I guess you’re right :joy:. Thank you very much for your help!
I tried it once again & everything works fine (also the original BEC. I will keep it for the moment & see if it is needed for the O3.
BTW: we’re you able to get the OSD running on the O3?

Some minor feedback on using what you posted on thingiverse with a vista. I hacked with a drill & blade but if it works out I may post a remix.
1/ The standard aerial cable is too short to make it to the aerial mount you designed. I glued in the one provided by the vista kit - see photos
2/ I tend to leave my vistas’s & camera’s in quads permanently but share one between many planes.
So.
a/ Even if I could reach the aerial mount you designed, to remove the aerial needs to be removed from the vista unit. I added a slot - see photos.
b/ The hole at the front was slightly too small to get the camera through. So, once again to remove the air unit & camera would need to be separated. I widened it with a blade.
