What is the difference between open hardwares and closed hardware?

Hi, I’m currently using a omnibusf4 pro but it has some problems so I’m thinking about buying a new FC. But I’m wondering what is the difference between open hardwares and closed hardware.
I think linux-based boards would be more appropriate for me. Does Open and Closed mean whether it is linux-based or not?

And I’m doing my own project so I need to edit the codes and build it. I currentily think using a Beaglebone blue but it seems a little big for me(but I can still use it) . Also I can’t find it in the available boards list.


Does blue mean Beaglebone blue? And do you have another recommendations for me?

Open means all of the build details are made available. Schematics, Eagle/Altium files, BOM etc.
