Terrain following with a buffer

hi, is it possible to command the plane in auto mode to flight by terrain follow but with height range and not specific height?
lets say i want the plane to fly between 450-550 meters agl, and not exactly 500 so it wont loss to much battery to maintain it.

That would be great because right now it’s an often unnecessary roller coaster.

I don’t think that’s possible. VNAV (vertical navigation) is quite limited in MavLink.
You can try increasing TERRAIN_LOOKAHD so it won’t dip as much in the valleys.
