Stopping Auto once engaged

OK, this started with my stupid mistake with TX switches.

With the new model and inexperienced me hovering it away from home point in stabilised manual and flying LOS, I meant to engage Altitude Hold for the first time, but stupidly threw the switch for Auto (when no mission set up). Nothing else was set.switch/channel wise.

The model retained its 4-5 metre altitude, turned and appeared to start to slowly returning towards home. I threw the switch back to “off”, expecting to regain control, but the model continued by itself. I was able to by extreme stick movement to slowly turn it to point away, but even holding full down pitch, it was still creeping backwards to home, where it hovered level (with full forward pitch held) and then my progressive down throttle brought it smoothly down to a good landing about a metre off start point.

So, my questions are, why did turning Auto off (switching back on Tx) not regain manual control?

I’m assuming me engaging Auto with no other waypoints set the FC assumed that home is where its supposed to go, is this so?

My attempts to make it stop returning by stick movement after I found no normal manual control being allowed did slow it, but that’s all, why?

Other than the obvious not be so stupid to wrongly engage Auto, what did I do wrong to recoiver from this mistake? I’m now paranoid about engaging any autonomous modes!

BTW - I have now added Tx speech to every command switch for more instant recognition feedback of modes being set.

TIA

Post a link to the .bin log file for that flight to really see what happened. If there is no Mission Saved it will not enter Auto Mode with an error message produced. But perhaps you had something in there?

You could also put Auto on It’s own switch so it’s it not so easy to engage.

I did have it on its own switch, I did say I was stupid?? :joy:

Not read up on .log files, will do now!
