Radio failsafe with CRSF (continuation of discussion from 4.1)

The plot thickens.
The standard nano receiver that I had condemned for loosing bind every few minutes has just done a faultless 30min auto flight on UART 4.
Id appreciate a quick comment from @andyp1per regarding the UARTs on the Matek H743.
Like should we be concerned with the difference between a UART and a USART and could the UART 7 ‘3.3v tolerant’ be significant for CRSF connection?

Yes, of course. I had this problem a few times over the years and always got it work in the end, but this time I really don’t know what else to try. Usually when Yaapu was silent, there were also sensors missing in OpenTX. But this time they’re all there in EdgeTX. It’s as if Yaapu simply doesn’t notice the data coming in.

Just to be clear Vince my test was on a Kakaute F7 Mini. Should have added that earlier. My Nano Pro disappeared along with a Matek H743.

Matek F405-SE with Copter 4.5.0-beta2, EdgeTX 2.9.3

EDIT: I just tried the same combination (Plane 4.5.0-beta2 + CRSF 6.19) on an F405-WING, and Yaapu was working instantly. Both FCs are using F405-WING target, so I guess that makes the whole thing even weirder.

Have you guys got the CRSF TX with Bluetooth?
Have you got a successful Ground station setup working? Which one?
I guess its Android only and nothing working on IOS?

I’ve only tried wifi (Micro TX V2), can’t say anything about bluetooth.

I’ve had very limited success with it as a telemetry link. I’ve got a project on the bench that I’ve wired up the extra mavlink port to try it again … not getting my hopes up.

Correct, nothing for IOS. There used to be an IOS version of QGC, and one of my ipads still has it installed. It’s out of date but it still works. But even on a laptop I’ve had more luck with QGC when I’ve tried telemetry over crossfire than I have with MP. Not sure why. Could just be coincidence.

I’m sorry no idea. Your settings look fine and the firmware has stuff enabled. Did you check that the TBS settings for the RX are the same?

I finally found the cause, and it looks like it could be an EdgeTX problem. I switched Telemetry Page 1 to Yaapu Maps, then added the Yaapu widget on newly added Page 2 and it suddenly worked. Then I tried setting it also on Page 1 (replacing Yaapu Maps) - nothing. I set Page 2 to Yaapu Maps, and still nothing from Yaapu on Page 1. Looks like it simply doesn’t work/run on Telemetry Page 1 for me (although “Yaapu telemetry ready”). Not sure about the actual reason, for the moment I’m just glad it’s finally working.

Had another RC failsafe and loss of bind. I had tried the standard nano back in the copter and it seems ok for a couple of short flights. I thought Id give it quick auto mission to drop a glider. Drone descended when the RTL occurred and the glider blew up into the props. Lucky to get away with it. Cord got cut, glider tailplane got sliced, quad ended up inverted but managed to recover and land.
Im really loosing track of what could be causing these loss of bind. So far its not occurred
on the nano pro on serial 4 but it could just be a matter of time.

Found another unused nano (standard) RX. I guess the origional kit had 3 of them.
Same story. 2 minutes into the flight an all too predictable RTL. Red LED on the RX and again lost bind.
Thats 3 nano doing exactly the same. The TX has been replaced already by retailer (thanks).
The nano pro so far has not had a problem in the current setup (new TX and different UART)

Whats different about my setup? Perhaps the Ethos operating system is not widely combined with CRSF and H743 so far? Other than that Im at a loss.

Your problem has nothing to do with Ethos. The operating system only supplies the CRSF data, the TX module or the RX is responsible for communication.

I myself use Ethos 1.4.17 on a Tandem X18SE and have no problem with Crossfire.

What does your configuration of the Crossfire TX and RX look like? Please take a few screenshots.

Made this vid a few days ago for TBS support. They say the settings are ok.
I agree the radio operating system is extremely unlikely to be the problem but I’ve looked at most other things. I was getting no feedback from Ethos users so it’s good to know it’s ok. Do you have the CRSF LUA working properly?

Ill probably regret saying this but, I may have found the issue.

Thinking about how my setup my be different, I don’t suppose many are using a SIK 433Mhz radio as backup and for parameter changes?
Anyway I disconnected it and one of the standard nanos just did a perfect 15min flight.

Why didnt this occur to me before? There was no problem with the nano pro and I thought it may cause poor RSSI if it was going to cause a problem, not lose bind.
More testing required to confirm.

It’s interesting that you say that. Not a 433Mhz radio but a WiFi radio (same band as CRSF!) right between the diversity antenna’s on this 4". I cut power to it when flying and only use it for configuration. My recollection is fuzzy but I remember having a reason for doing this on this quad.

I think we can call this issue fixed.
Just had a 30min flight circling out to 400mts with TX power set at only 10mw and have no problems. Excellent RSSI and SQ all the time.
I think my setup was fairly unique for the following reasons -
UK/Europe SIK radio is on 433Mhz and CRSF is on 868Mhz Very close to a harmonic. Probably not many people have both on the came copter? A google search about interference between these 2 bands does not reveal relevant results. Its still a mystery why the nano pro RX was almost immune and also a mystery why it caused a loss of bind almost every time.

I would like the SIK radio on at FC power up and off when armed, hence my post about the servo 30 function.

I used a 433 radio for awhile with Frsky R9 with no problem but that probably isn’t saying much.
