How to do terrain following without terrain data in auto mode?

Hi,

I wanted to know is there a way by which we can do terrain following without terrain data but with the help of rangefinder using as altimeter ? Because in remote location it’s difficult to get terrain data from google maps due to lack of internet.

You can download the terrain data first with https://terrain.ardupilot.org/ and upload it to the SDcard.
It has 100m horizontal resolution.

Thanks for your reply, but is there a way we can use rangefinder so that copter dynamically change height rather than using barometer and uses fix height as send in terrain data.
