ELRS with Mission Planner and Radio Transmitter

Hello and Good day,

I am planning a build that will use the SpeedyBee F405 v3 flight controller esc stack. The main goal of this project is to be able to do waypoint planning, with a software such as mission planner.

I am most familiar with ELRS, so that is what I will use. However, I still want to be able to control the drone through human input, with a controller such as this

My current plan is to use an elrs receiver with the fc stack, but I don’t know if I am able to have gps mission planner control along with an rc controller that are both transmitting to the same ELRS receiver.

Is this possible, and if so, is there a way I can connect my transmitter to my computer running mission planner so that I only have to use one transmitter?

I’m very new to ardupilot, so anything helps!

Thanks and Best Regards,

I’ve heard about something called MAVLink but I’m not sure which receivers or transmitter has it.

Yes, it’s called elrs airport. It’s quite troublesome to be honest. I suggest you the easy way that is just getting a telemetry radio. Get one with frequency different from your elrs.

Also the distance will be much further, elrs RX typically transmit 100mw. Your radio can transmit even to 1w or more.

Yes, I’ve heard about elrs airport. I heard about something new that lets you do almost the same thing but using only 1 rx and 1 tx. It had full bidirectional support. This is the link to the docs. Will this work using these modules?
TX Module (Attaches to Zorro)
Rx Module (ELRS Attaches to FC)

Thank you so much for helping me!

i think it should work with all ELRS hardware. The TX Ranger even has a backpack → Wifi connection instead of USB/Serial possible.

You don’t need airport, old news. What you linked to should work.

Alright, thanks!

Another question, will this GPS module work with current arudpilot firmware?

Yes, but get the one with a compass unless you already have another external one. I have one, surprisingly decent performance for such a cheap module.

Yep, I meant to link this one! That’s my bad haha! Thanks for all your help!

I might not be able to borrow the zorro from my friend and buy the tx ranger, but does the RadioMaster Pocket ELRS have a backpack? To use the MAVLink with internal ELRS I need to use backpack anyway.

Please just read/search your linked manufacturers description.
Feature #1:
Available in ExpressLRS Backpack and MPM CC2500 versions

So it should have one…
