Difference between hex and apj

Sorry for the nubie question.
I want to download the arducopter 3.6.12.
When I go to download it, I have 2 options:

  1. 3.6.12.hex
  2. 3.6.12.apj
    What is the difference?

Good day, . hex are firmwares in Intel hex format, for loading with DFU loading tools. This kind of file is used when you need flash it in dfu mode and when the board don’t have a compatible bootloader with ardupilot.
apj is the file which contain the firmware and loaded with ardupilot compatible groubdstation
