Copter Motor Surging Problem :( [solved by notch filter followed by autotune]

I have never seen these settings in the ArduCopter instructions, is there somewhere I can learn how to do this analysis and determine the best INS settings myself ??? I need to learn this as I am sure I will be setting up different copters for years to come !

But I would say you need to have a fundamental understanding of several concepts to be successful. Closed loop PID control, filters, FFT and generally know your way around the full parameter list. Being able to understand and graph flight logs is required also.

Thank you for the answer, that is something I would love to learn, but will obviously take a while. Thanks for your help on this, the copter is flying great now, and I will post the hover .bin again with the 12 inch props if you have time to analyze it.

That’s good news Michael! Good job sticking with it, it’s a bit of of a process. With near future Arducopter releases this might be a bit easier.
