Configuring a second telemetry radio solely for receiving GPS data

I am building a gimbal that tracks a UAV’s location by using its GPS data. Is it possible to configure a second telemetry receiver, (ie RFD900x) separate from the ground station, that solely listens for GPS data?

Can’t answer your question but I’m curious if something here might help:

A lot of (higher end) GNSS receivers have 2 serial ports and can be configured to send nav data to both of them.
IMHO it would easier to use Mission Planner MavLink or NMEA forwarding capabilities.

Would using MavLink or NMEA forwarding result in a delay rather than collecting from a dedicated telem module?

Probably not one that is great enough to move the target vehicle out of an antenna beam or camera FOV.
