ArduPilot and Google Summer of Code 2025

ArduPilot has been accepted to the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) for 2025!

For those not familiar with GSoC it is a program sponsored by Google in which (mostly) university students and recent graduates work on open source projects for a few month with help and mentoring from an experienced developer. Google pays the salaries of the students while the members of the open source project provide the mentoring. For students it is a great opportunity to work on fun projects with experienced ArduPilot developers and for ArduPilot it helps us make progress in some areas that we might not otherwise be able to. A significant number of GSoC students go on to become members of the core development team.

This year we are hoping to mentor 3 or 4 students working on the projects listed here.

Student eligibility is outlined here in the GSoC rules but in short:

  • be eighteen (18) years of age or older upon registration for the Program;
  • for the duration of the Program, be eligible to work in the country in which they reside;
  • not be an Organization Administrator or Mentor in the Program; and
  • be a student or a beginner to open source software development.

The GSoC Timeline is here but the critical dates are:

  • Mar 24th ~ Apr 8th : student application period
  • May 8th : successful students & projects announced
  • May 8th ~ Sep 1st : community bonding & coding period
  • Sep 1st : project completion & final evaluation

If you know of university students interested in working on ArduPilot, please ask them to apply! They can also chat directly with the mentors via the gsoc channel on AP’s discord server.
