Apm calibration issue


I am making a payload carrying quadcopter which will be autonomously controlled by APM, mission planner, gps. The drone lifts off the payload easily with the payload when flying manually with a radio transmitter. I had calibrated the apm without the payload. It worked without any problems. But when i attached the 1 kg payload the drone just fell to the ground. My question is: should i recalibrate the apm with the payload attached in order to make it fly?
