What kind of maps are used for autonomous missions?

I have read a lot about Mission Planners for a Tablet or Phone and the ability to use maps and way-points to guide an Iris. May I ask what kind of maps are used and if they are free or propriety?

I live in the UK and as such, I have Ordinance Survey maps for the entire country in digital form in scales 1:25 and 1:50. Would I be able to use these maps?

It downloads from Google maps. There is a feature to pre-download maps and I think they can be transferred to a tablet. I’ve not tried this myself but you can probably find details on YouTube or Google…
