Using STARLINK for BVLOS

Hi guys i recently saw how surface vessel drones are being used in Ukraine with their telemetry link over starlink satellite coms, so my question is, how can we applied it with arduplane, or copter, so we can have uninterrupted BVLOS comms?

Does anybody of you have stories about using Starlink with ardupilot that you can share?

Very interesting.

Pi Pico an SBC and a router. seems nht9ng too complex hardware wise.

Would be interesting to see if AP can do it.

It’s not really a question of ArduPilot working with Starlink. ArduPilot can stream MAVLink telemetry over any sort of IP or serial connection, including most satellite modems. There are plenty of groups using various brands of satellite modem, including Starlink.

The Starlink modem is quite bulky, so you may find that only larger planes and copters would be able to carry it.

Starlink is a ip router, so you can do like on any ip router to use with ArduPilot.

how so? can you tell me how?

You are correct. I think drone users need lightweight satellite link dongle onboard the UA.

Do you have any brand recommendation which is lightweight, sufficient bandwidth and work well with ArduPilot?

The Skylink series of modems work pretty well

Thank you. I think Satcom from LikeAbird has similar potential too.
