Using Arduplane without an airspeed sensor - Some Questions

Tridge has given a nice description of how the arduplane works without an airspeed sensor in the documentation - http://ardupilot.org/plane/docs/fixed-wing-faq.html#how-is-airspeed-used-with-no-airspeed-sensor.

Has anyone flown without an airspeed sensor? How was your experience with the flight behavior without an airspeed sensor?

Some users over in this post claim that pixhawk and arduplane do a better job at estimating the airspeed than a normal sensor which is generally noisy.

I’d love to get some more insight into how the system works without an airspeed sensor. Please do share your thoughts and experiences.
