Unable to open COM port: usbmodem1421

i install the APM planner 2.0 on my mac os 10.11.2, according to the guide ,i installed the USB driver(FTDIUSBSerialDriver_10_4_10_5_10_6_10_7.pkg) first, then i got the planner installed, but when i plug in the APM 2.8 board, and tried to install the firmware for it, i got the error “Unable to open COM port: usbmodem1421”, and the usbmodem 1421 is the only available option that i can choose.

have no idea how to get it work on my laptop. questions:

  1. how to check the USB driver is installed correctly?

Had the same problem when I used the provided USB drivers as they do what they say but only up to 10.7.
Bill has posted a USB connection link at the top of the forum list.
Follow the guide to uninstall the old drivers and install the newer virtual com drivers

Thanks for this information. I’ve also got this problem and followed the documentation but no matter what I do, I can’t get APM 2 to connect with my APM via USB. It recognises the board but thinks it’s an Arduino Mega 2560. Is this correct ?

I’ve attached a screenshot of what I’m seeing.

Any help coming, pulling what little hair I have left out

Yes, it sees it as an Arduino Mega
