I’ve searched both the DIY page and this forum but found no description of how they work. Is there a description explained somewhere about how to use Spline Waypoints?
When adding waypoints you can select what type of waypoint should be used. If you use spline waypoints, and your copter has AC3.2 it will follow the waypoints in a more fluid way (spline navigation on copters)

Can you elaborate a little. Does that mean instead of jerking to a new heading when reaching a waypoint it kind of just follows the line in a smoother fashion?
Yes, spline creates an smoother flight path for the copter.
It’s a new feature of ArduCopter 3.2, DroidPlanner is just being used to display the path. here are some posts about it:
