I know metal and cabling (power) affect the compass on the rover itself and the compass should be isolated as much as it can on the rover. I am running rtk and I was wondering if the the rtk base station is affected by metal and cabling like on the rover and should I isolate the base station from metal and cabling as much as possible? I think I have to, but just checking. Thanks.
I don’t have any but I don’t think RTK bases have compass on-board. As long as the GPS antenna sees a clear sky without obstructions, you should be fine, I think. Most of the RTK bases are used on field operations mounted on a metal tripod. These modules also don’t need too much power consumption (neither voltage nor current), so even if they have a compass, you are in a safe zone. Of course, on the vehicle side, there is a different story.
There’s no compass on a base station, and, depending on the antenna in use, it may be advisable to ADD metal to the mount point as a ground plane.
Great and thank you all!
