RPlidar S3 experiences and driver support for Ardupilot

Hello Everyone,

We want to integrate an obstacle avoidance system into your drones, which we are flying mostly in the winter season and somtimes also in harsh weather conditions with wind, light rain, snow etc.

We tried the integrated obstacle avoidance features with the lightware sf45/b, which performed ok, but had some issues with sunlight from a low standing sun and since it is a very open design we are worried, that it will break quite quickly in our conditions.

In the meantime I found the RPLidar S3, which looks promising regarding at least some water resistance and sunlight landling - but as far as i know arducopter lacks the drivers to support it at the moment. So i have a few questions for the community / developers.

  • does anyone have any experiences with the RP Lidar S3?
  • has anyone tried to get it to work with arducopter?
  • would a developer try to get it working, if we would provide the sensor?

Thanks for your replies

Best Regards,
Markus

See this; the protocol could be the same.

thanks for the reply!
It might be, but I myself am not able to program the driver for ardupilot myself, so i am hoping for a bit more help. We also might offer some compensation for the driver integration, if that helps to motivate.
