Hello everybody,
I have 2 RFD900x modules with stock dipole antennas connected but even it is able to get 40kms I never got close to it. I am using one of them on a plane and other on the ground ofc. I tested them on the ground before and they lose connection around 400 meters. I know that there are obstacles between them while I am testing but still it should give me more range I guess. I tried to power the module wia pixhawk and seperated 5v bec but there was no significant difference on the range. I updated both of the modules to the latest firmware from the rfdesign website with rfdtools. There is the settings for the both of the modules
Having an independent power supply for the modem is a good start and your configuration seems sane. What BEC are you using to power the RFD900x?
Make sure the remote modem settings match this one.
If you think obstacles are not an issue, then check for potential interference in the 900 MHz range.
I would turn on encryption, all kinds of industrial stuff runs on 900
sorry, no answers for you - but all the RFD900x’s we’ve been using have been excellent.
20kms is the furthest i’ve tested and still going strong. Definately line of sight and maybe a little more. Again, not helpful - but its been plug’n’play, no tuning.
If you are getting only 400m then follow up with RFdesigns - something is very not right.
There is interference, or there is signal blocking in mountainous areas.
Hello everyone under that topic,
I was building my project for a competition and I was disqualified and my journey went to an end. But after that I had a chance to talk to other competitors, they told me that yes, using additional source for the one on the plane is good, but they also mentioned that the FTDI cable might not be able to provide enough power(current) even if it gives 5V from laptop usb. Since I am not a part of the project team, I couldn’t find a chance to test it. But here, I’m sharing it with you if there’s someone facing the same problem. Check the supplies on both modems and check interferance on the RFDtools…
It was lm2596 and adjusted to 5V.
