Pixhawk and GPS question

I just picked up a Pixhawk and have a question. I was reading the quick start guide and with the gps info it has it says it’s required . I’m just wondering I bought mine without gps to learn the basics first and then later on get the gps will the Pixhawk work on a quad without the gps? Yes I know most of the main functions won’t work but just wanted a stable FC to start off with.

You might not be able to ARM the Pixhawk for flight without a GPS attached.

There is a command to disable pre arming checks, just disable this for GPS only and dont try to use any of the GPS guided modes.
