Has the support for Displays been removed from firmware since 4.5?!

It is possible that this feature is deactivated by default, depending on what board you use.

You can see here, which features are deactivated for each board: List of Firmware Limitations by Board

If it is indeed deactivated for your board, you can create a custom firmware where the feature is activated here: ArduPilot Custom Firmware Builder
