Not seeing USB connected "camera" on Android

I have a nifty VRX (video receiver) that does a fine job on a Windows PC with either Mission Planner or Qgroundcontrol. I get a nice live video stream on both ground control programs.

On Android however, neither Mission Planner or Qgroundcontrol will recognize this VRX as a camera. The tablet recognizes the device as a camera - and asks for permission for the app to access it when the camera is plugged in. But for some reason Qgroundcontrol and Mission Planner don’t recognize it.

To make sure the functionality works, I tested an app called “USB Camera” - and it properly displays the video stream coming from the copter:

But the camera does not show up on Qgroundcontrol as a selection:

And when taking the “Start Camera” option on Mission Planner - nothing comes through. (It does on Windows)

Since both Mission Planner and Qgroundcontrol can’t identify the “camera” - I’m guessing that the problem has to do with some sort of Android config setting. I have all the permissions for the apps set to allow access - and in fact, on Qgroundcontrol if you select “front facing” or “rear facing” camera, you get the tablet’s cameras stream.

I’d appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks!
