I am using a Turnigy 9X, Mode 2, the center-loaded elevator stick is the throttle. I have v2.8 loaded. The Radio and ESC (Turnigy Plush 18A) are calibrated. Wheels spin at half-throttle speed when motor is armed (stick is at midpoint). There no reverse. I have to pull the throttle all the way back to get the motor to stop. I calibrated the ESC in manual mode.

It sounds like you are using an aircraft/multicopter ESC that does not have the neutral position at 1500us and reverse like a car ESC.
