Large Octocopter PID Tuning


We are building a large octocopter with 16" propellers. After testing it for the first time, we realized that the default PID values were not good enough to keep our drone stable.

Does anyone know approximate values of what the P, I, and D should be so that our drone will be more stable?

I just got finished tuning a medium-large hexacopter and I can tell you that if your copter is somewhat powerful, the default PID values will be much higher than necessary. Here’s the guide I used … ning-guide. I found my stab P to be around 2.7, rate P about .12, rate I around 0.06, and rate D around .006. I hope this helps, but I wouldn’t suggest just putting my parameters in your copter.
