Help mission planner settings!

I am fairly new to quadcopters. Recently, I purchased a quantum nova bnf. I was never able to bind the nova to my receiver so purchased a TX from the dealer. I have programmed the amp through mission planner, however, when I unlock the motors the spin up but will not lift the quad up even on full throttle. If I flip the mode switch the quad will take off and fly erratically but will auto land. Am I missing some simple setting in mission planner that will fix this behavior?

Be very careful and go into full parameters - Config/Tuning > Full Parameter List
There you will find THR_MAX and it should be at 1000
If not, type it in and click Write Parameters
