HD Video Quality, gymbals, and tuning

Damn… those are some impressive numbers in terms of range. Can You disclose what exactly you have from radiomaster? Some 100/250mW radio? Or something with higher power? Do You use ELRS telemetry? Which receiver? Highest telemetry power I saw is iFlight with 250mW@2.4GHz power.

I bought this one: https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005006832319282.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.127.75e9194dNNS6vt&gatewayAdapt=glo2esp

For receivers, I use the same which came with TX, and also speedybee RX. The speedybee rx has 100 mW, the RX which came with the TX has 10 mW (RX power is important for telemetry).

I am not sure how to setup lrs telemetry (I need a Mavlink connection), but it was not on top of my priorities for the moment. Before I always used the Dragon link modem for telemetry.

One important issue is that the RX antenna, which is a dipole, must be oriented correctly with respect to TX. When it is at right angle, I get about 40…50 % RSSI at 15 km. If I turn the copter so that the dipole points away from TX, I may get 20 %, or even less at that distance.

So when I was far away I was bearing in mind how to point the copter so as to to get the correct alignment of the RX antenna with respect to Ground Station, and sometimes flew sidewise.

The OpenTX warns when internal telemetry is lost, and it seems to happen when RSSI is close to 15 %, I get first a voice message from Radio that telementry is lost, and then I may loose the RC signal.

The TX says it has 1 W output power.

If you need longer range, there are 900 MHz modules for the same price (about 50 USD).
If you need serious range (beyond 50 km and up to 150 km.), dragon link works flawlessly at about 250 USD TX and 100 USD receiver

UPDATE of the DIY mechanical stabilizer…

I reworked it a little bit, changed stabilizer arms for carbon fiber, slightly increased the span (to 18 cm), slightly increased the weights (now they are 10, 10, and 12 grams, rear one), put rubber shock absorbers and voila, I have zero visible vibrations/oscillations… Obviousy, rough air produces video instability, but it is of a different kind and certainly could be corrected with a normal gymbal…

Total weight - 56 grams without camera, which weighs an extra 34 grams…

Now I am thinking about buying Siyi8… Not sure if it is a good choice…
