Can’t connect via old silk radio so want to get into elrs so get telem and radio, watched lots of videos and nomad seems good have both 900 and 2.4ghz. Looked at the ranger but they are older, or what module would you go for under 100 bucks. Have tx16s, would this package work?
Best for Nomad? The DBR4 Rx takes maximum advantage of it. If you can position 4 antennas…
Hi,
beware of Nomad.
It is among the first modules for dual-band and is supposed to get full support with ELRS 4.0, stuff like double data-rates via genini modes, etc.
Be aware of compatibility issues.
Point is, recently ELRS development has become unreliable/delayed, not sure about the circumstances. It is also possible that they will go for something DRM-like, so that you can’t select FCC firmware to circumvent EU power output levels and use 868Mhz at the same time with NOMAD.
Unless you are totally sure that you want Nomad, consider a “traditional” 2G4 or 900M setup, depending on your range requirements. 2G4 yields good mavlink data rates and the antennas are small. 900M has a couple of long-range transmitters up to 500mW but mavlink data rate is barely enough for telemetry with up to 1.5 seconds of delays, means your GCS will throw timeout errors.
I’ve been using the nomad and I’m reasonably impressed. It’s not perfect, but it’s working for what I wanted. Being new to ELRS I didn’t have to worry about the compatibility issues with some of the bands on the traditional gear because I didn’t have any of that stuff.
I’ve been using it strictly for MavLink connection on the K1000 mode (900MHz). I’ve tested to a couple of km at 250mw and it’s worked well. Data to the GCS has been solid. I know this isn’t record breaking but it fits my needs perfectly. My beef has been the link seems to be really sensitive to antenna positioning. I’ve had failsafes very close in. Re-connection has been instant, but it’s not a great situation.
I tried MavLink in the DK500 mode on 2.4GHz and that was a train wreck. Ton’s of short-range failsafes. Re-connection took for ever. Nice part is that a couple of seconds in the Lua Script changed me to K1000 and I was back up and running. But damn do I miss Yaapu. That’s proving harder to go without than I first expected.
Worth noting that DK500 in regular ELRS/CRSF worked just fine for me and not so much as a twich. And Yaapu worked.
Concerning Yaapu,
PR is complete but has not received any review for almost 3 month. It’s my second worst PR performance of the last decade.
You can have Yaapu working on V3.5.3, just flash the TX with
BTW:
It turned out that configurator cannot build V3.5.3 for Nomad by itself because some patches are missing. All binaries for Nomad are custom made and uploaded to cloud for V3.5.3.
Any idea of how to continue troubleshooting, thought that network card could play a roll, or is there something else, tried both cable and wifi to module but don’t work
I would take a look on mLRS from mateksys.
On connection the TX module tries to open an UDP port on your PC and that is prevented by the firewall. You need to deactivate Windows Defender or at least configure it to allow port 14550 udp.
I did not manage thus I’m completely on Linux now because it just works and I’m the admin on my machines, not Microsoft.
The PR has been merged, so I assume it will be mainlined with ELRS V4.0.
