Drone Drift in Alt Hold Mode

Equipment:

  • Pixhawk 6X
  • Mission Planner
  • ArduCopter V4.4.0

Hello,

I recently purchased my first drone. I have a question about the horizontal drift while in Alt Hold mode. When flying my drone in Alt Hold mode, it drifts in a specific direction even though I am not inputting any commands with the transmitter. The drift is consistent in one direction and does not change. Is this behavior expected in Alt Hold mode, or is it an issue? I would appreciate any advice or insights. Thank you.

Best regards.

Hello @Ryo.G,

In Alt Hold mode the copter only attempts to maintain a set altitude and does not hold the position in X-Y plane.
If you want your copter to do that then use Loiter flight mode.

The drone is bound to drift (in Alt Hold) depending on the wind direction. In situations when there is almost no wind and still the drone is drifting you should check if your accel calibration is good. And if that’s the case then you can consider doing AutoTrim — Copter documentation (ardupilot.org)
