Does Alt Hold require a compass?

A very simple question -

Does Alt Hold require a compass?

Thank you

No

Thanks. :sunglasses:

Way2,

Asking that question suggests that you need to do some more reading. There is a lot of good information available that should be carefully studied.

Might find this useful:

and more specifically to your question,

What about if using EKF?

In no case is the compass required for Alt-Hold. (EKF or DCM). However, the compass and GPS are still used in these modes if they are connected. The compass would be used to remove yaw axis gyro drift. And the GPS is used to compensate acceleration forces affecting the stabilization estimates. This effect is really only seen if flying quite aggressively.

I really hate answers like this, they are killing the community. Especially if they are not true: The wiki says nothing about compass use in AltHold and other modes. And certainly the wiki does not say anything about that interesting facts Rob gave here. Thanks, Rob, you make a great job.
