Could a FC be made to 'seek' it's way home by using transmitter RSSI if no GPS

sorry if this is has been answered elsewhere (i searched but couldn’t find anything related) but I’m wondering if anyone has looked into an algorythm to ‘seek’ home via RSSI when GPS isn’t working? Perhaps maintain altitude and perform a large circle and perform another large circle with the opposite rotation at the point of highest RSSI. Thoughts?

Try it out using lua scripting. No one did it before.

First you would need a directional antenna on the craft. Which would be problematic for general flight.

Not really, if you assume that the field is azimuth independent you can estimate gradient direction by flying two perpendicular legs and measuring gradient components.

If the field isn’t azimuth independent you will get skewed gradient direction towards beam center.

PS it will be fairly inaccurate without any way of measuring ground speed but it at least should get you in a correct direction most of the times.
