Connecting LIS3MDL polulu externall compass

hi all, want to connect an external compass to my pixhawk 1, i purchased the LIS3MDL 3-Axis Magnetometer. i read in the change logs that since arducopter 3.5.4 this magnetometer is supported but my pixhawk dosent see it at all.
im running arducopter 3.5.7
does any one have any advice?
