Apm 2.6 sbus connection for tarnis X8R receiver

good afternoon.
please could any one help, this is the first sbus I am using on a APM 2.6.
I am using a tarnis 9 plus with a X8R reciver
do you need special software/firmware on the APM to see this. I only need to use a max of 8 channels.
I am installing on a plane, then going to try on one of my traditional Heli’s.
