APM 2.5 and 3DR Eternal GPS with Compass

Hello,

I have a 3DR APM 2.5 and I ordered a 3DR external compass with GPS ublox LEA-6H module (I have not received yet).

Will the 3.2 firmware for APM support this GPS?

I have read the 3.2 release notes stating “Dropped support for NMEA and SIRF GPS on APM boards” but it’s unclear to me if this GPS will work or if APM with 3.2 will support any available GPS modules.

I looked up the data sheet for the LEA-6H GPS module and it says it uses the protocols NMEA, UBX binary, RTCM. So it looks like it can use a different protocol than NMEA.

Thanks

Brian

@bstewart63,
Yes, the 3DR GPS/Compass will work with the APM2.5 when using ArduCopter v3.2.
The protocol happens to be binary, not NMEA.
If you want to use the external compass, then you will have to do this http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-external-magnetometer-for-improved-performance/

That’s good news!

Thanks TCIII I really appreciate the help.
