I have a question about flight characteristics for any airframe that can be chosen in QGroundControl. When you choose an airframe, do the rates for that airframe get assigned automatically, or would those have to be manually inputted in the parameters?
Are you using ArduPilot or PX4? Seems like you may be using PX4. If so, yes the rates are set to defaults for that airframe. Which should give you something flyable but may need extra tuning. For more details you need to ask the firmware folks since this is all handled by firmware. QGC does nothing here other than set an airframe type parameter.
