Adding local windspeed and direction

I’d like to measure the local (at the ground station) windspeed and direction and display it and log it in MP.

Has anyone done this ?

Could I just send the local windspeed and direction and other data into Mission Planner via a 2nd Mavlink ?

Would I need to add fields to Mission Planner in code to do this or can it be done in the GUI ?
