General Pixhawk based autopilot discussion such as: Pixhawk 1, PX4, PixRacer etc.
I’m interested to know what’s in the Pixhawk family tree, both the living and the past-their prime models. What promoted me to post this was a comment in the PX4 forum, in which someone asked which is the best model to buy:
“Yes Pixhawk 4 Pro or Mini.
https://docs.px4.io/master/en/flight_controller/pixhawk4.html
The 2.X stuff is obsolete and going forward it will be harder to find parts.
Also the 4 is faster, which could affect processing from the companion.
Also consider to get going fast:

Pi is not so well supported.”
I am using both the Pixhawk 1 and 2 on my drones, along with companion RPi’s. This comment was somewhat disconcerting. Any truth to this? Should I be thinking about a migration path for the next drones, or retrofitting existing drones?
Any wisdom on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
And also look at this about the Pixhawk 4 from the Holybro website:
“Pixhawk® 4 is the latest update to the successful family of Pixhawk flight controllers. It is designed and developed in collaboration with Holybro and Auterion, optimized to run PX4. It comes preinstalled with the latest PX4 firmware.”
What does this say for ArduPilot? Can it run too? and are there the same benefits of speed and capacity? I hope that ArduPilot, my current standard, will be included in this hardware advance.
Thanks again,
Joe
Pixhawk 4 can run both Ardupilot or PX4 with the same benefits of speed and capacity.
