My VTOL has been flying really nice and has probably accumulated around 50hrs trouble free flying. The airframe was not easy to dismantle and transport so I made some changes like quick connect wings and reprinted.
Once the new airframe was complete I swapped over all electronics to the identical (almost ) airframe. All I needed to do was to set the servo endpoints.
I cant believe that during this process I didnt notice the reversed servo.
The new airframe was identical except for the aileron servos, which were now in a new position.
Some time pressure applied by my video team (wife) so preflight checks shortened.
See aerobatics at the end of transition.
Yikes, that was unfortunate. Anything salvageable?
All I needed to do was to set the servo endpoints.
I recently learned that this is not enough. I also check the throws in FBWA without touching the sticks. Had the same sort of maiden disaster with an AR Wing Pro with insufficient throws for an auto takeoff.
Nothing from the airframe was salvageable, complete reprint. It looks like all the electronics are ok. My 4s4p Li-ion battery got catapulted into a river and had to be rebuilt. All cells seem to be good. Lucky the whole plane didn’t end in the river, just 2 meters away. Still cant believe I was so stupid.
I think it’s safe to say that the community is in two groups: There are those of us who have done it, and those who’ve never set up a plane before.
Sorry to hear about the crash.
