Sonar Maxbotix only be used pointing down?

I tried with a small lidar (TF benewake LUNA LIDAR) and it actually works better than sonar. Unfortunately the used lidar model produces a lot of EMI with GPS fix problems. I partially solved it with a lot of shielding on the lidar. On a 4" copter the distances are minimal and the EMI problems are high

@ibrahimqazi @ppoirier i will also try the pcb as a screen. Thanks. today, with all the shielding, the GPS caught 14 sats out of 20 sats in view (after 5 minutes in flight). the TF luna still works. [test TF luna lidar altimeter. arducopter 4.4 dev. copter 4" liion]
