[approved] GPS' for fast copter comparison

Topic:

GPS’ for fast copter comparison

Proposal type: Hardware , Software , Other : _________________

Description:

I plan to do some flight comparison’s at high speed between relatively inexpensive GPS’ to figure out how much better the more expensive units are at speed and what effect tilt has on the signal. Holybro have kindly provided several of their GPS’, I just need to get 4x Matek M10Q-5883 for comparison. I also want to run dual-GPS setups with the GPS at different angles (because the copter will be leaning heavily at high speed).

Planned amount $$ (USD): 4x$40 = $160

Estimated time for completion:

Ongoing, dependent on weather

Nice idea. Each manufacturer probably has different low pass filter settings.

Might be good to test different antennas as well (helical vs patch).

Yes I have the F9P ultralight from Holybro to test

It should be noted, that the F9P “Ultralight” only comes with a cable for the 6 pin GPS2 port. If you have no GPS module connected to GPS1, you must set SERIAL3_PROTOCOL on Pixhawk Cube to -1 (or anything else than GPS). Otherwise, the F9P Ultralight will not be detectect on GPS2 (SERIAL4) port.
