My project is a bot using power chair motors and it is 24x24 inches.Can I use a shielded cable to the sonar
sensor that is about 18 inches away from the APM 2.5 board?

I use serial CDROM shielded cables to run my Maxbotix MB1240 power, signal, and gnd outputs to my APM2.5 and they work quite well though you have to be good at hacking the cable ends to meet your connection requirements.
