Want inputs from mentors for GSOC 2026

Hi,

I’m Aditya, a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at IIT Madras.

This will be my first time participating in GSoC and contributing to open source, so I’m still figuring out how to proceed. I have already set up ArduPilot on my Linux system, as I spent part of a previous research internship studying your codebase.

However, I’m unsure about the next steps, particularly how to write a strong proposal and how to approach communication with mentors. Is it important to interact with mentors before submitting a proposal, or can a well-prepared proposal alone be sufficient?

I have reviewed the project ideas and feel that I have some relevant background to contribute, but I’m not sure how to get started or approach the process effectively.

I would really appreciate any guidance you could offer.

Thank you for your time.

Everything you need to get started is here GSoC - Google Summer of Code — Dev documentation

More than anything we care about authentic engagement and good effort. Ideally, the project should be something you care about that you would continue to study and work out with or without GSoC.
