Updating an Older CubeOrange VTOL to the Latest ArduPilot Version

Hi!

I inherited a large VTOL, about 250 cm wingspan, with a V-tail, CubeOrange flight controller, Here GPS, and an airspeed sensor. The drone was bought fully built around 2022, and the recommendation in the documentation is to not update the parameters and not upgrade to a newer version of ArduPilot.

When I flew a similar VTOL model owned by a friend, everything felt more robust and smarter.

So now I would like to update mine as well. Is there anything important I should think about when updating from such an old ArduPilot version to the latest one, apart from backing up the parameters and adding them back one by one?

What version is installed now? It might be a good idea to upgrade to some intermediate version, then update to latest stable version.
Any parameter changes are automatically converted or updated.

What documentation would that be?

The documentation provided with the BNF model.

OK. What BNF model? This advice to not update Ardupilot firmware needs a reason otherwise it’s bad advice. Custom firmware based on an old version is one reason. In any case it’s a CubeOrange, you can always update that to the latest version and configure and tune as usual as with a new craft.

Bind-and-fly i think

You might have to message Foxtech but as @xfacta asked what does it say on the Mission Planner messages screen after connecting for the firmware version. Like this example:
Ardu

I’ve tried to reach them, but they won’t reply. I’ll get back with the version after the weekend. =)
