Unusual Current Reports

VTOL aircraft. 4.6.3 version. Power system was potentially damaged by a short between power wires and a 22000maH battery. She produced this log while in a hover.

Problem: The logged Curr under BAT in the logs are reporting an unusual pattern as well as undercurrent.

Clues:

The bird itself is using the correct amount of power (about 40 amps) yet the logs are reporting .4 or .23 etc. Other logs report current normally as in 40 or 23 amps. The bird PULSES the throttle for an unknown reason (possibly because it is not tuned yet). You can hear it. The pattern below looks way more like electrical damage rather than an un-tuned bird but I am not sure. When in forward flight mode (Manual) there are no such patterns or pulses.

Here is what I am seeing:

Here is the log displaying the problems: 60.BIN

Here is a previous log on the same bird that is not displaying the problem: 56.BIN

It looks like the power module differential amplifer got zapped by the short, replace the power module.

Throttle compensation uses estimated resting voltage so with bad current data you get changing gains and scaling.

by power module do you mean my power distribution board or the mauch voltage/current sensor?

or both?

The current sensor, though I would inspect the PDB for damage.

You should first check if the sensor is working by putting current through the wire and checking if there is a measurable response to current. If the sensor works it zapper the flight controller ADC input.

Ok, I had a working PL Mauch sensor from an old build that I knew worked. I swapped it out and sure enough it is bad. I couldn’t find any blown components on the Mauch 004: PL-200/8 Sensor Board but I do not have the tools to test all of them. That said, I have a new one on the way. Thanks for the tip Lupus!
