Understanding ESC, KV, prop diam,thrust

Where should I go to learn and understand the relationship between the ESC, battery voltage motor KV, prop diam and type and thrust. I have a drone with a 11 volt 3S battery, 4 900 KV motors and 10 inch props. I was told top use these but I do not know why.

Can I rep[lace the 10inch props with 3 inch props and keep the same motor and ESC? Would the controller somehow know how to make the 3 inch props work?

Is there a good technical design guide available somewhere.?

No to the motors, maybe for the ESC’s if the capacity is sufficient. Buy a subscription to eCalc and learn why.

The smaller props require a motor with higher “KV” - the smaller props need to spin faster to produce usable thrust, and KV means RPM per Volt.
So with bigger props you go for a lower KV motor - the bigger props spin slower to produce the required thrust.
