what means this message?
I have already used geofence with this pixhawk 2.4.8.
Now with the new ardupilot does geofence not work?

QGC removed support for the protocol ArduPilot supports for uploading
fences.

We’re actively working to supporting the protocol QGC does support.

Isn’t that kind of backwards? Shouldn’t QGC support Ardupilot protocols, not the other way around?

Yes and no.

QGC supports more than one autopilot system, and there are protocols in
the base mavlink specification which are (now!) suitable for transporting
the same data that ArduPilot transports via older, custom protocols.

Removing the QGC support which it had for the ArduPilot algorithms before
ArduPilot has support for transporting via the common protocol - that’s a
touch more debatable. I doubt it was done for any reason other than it
was making appropriate factoring problematic.
