Test results of the TK8620 chip telemetry radio

We recently conducted performance testing on our fully open-source drone wireless data transmission scheme , focusing on two key metrics: mobile reception under motion and end-to-end link latency. Here are the test setups, methods, and results for your reference.

1. Mobile Reception Test (50–70 km/h Dynamic Test)

Configuration: P2P setup between TX and RX boards, tested at packet rates of 25Hz and 250Hz.

Test Scenario: The RX board was mounted on a test vehicle moving at constant speeds of 50 km/h, 60 km/h, and 70 km/h. Packet Error Rate (PER) was recorded throughout the drive.

Result: The Packet Error Rate (PER) remained at 0% across all speed and packet rate combinations.

Summary: The link demonstrates excellent stability and data integrity under medium-to-high speed mobile scenarios.

2. End-to-End Link Latency Test (TX UART In / RX UART Out)

Test Method:

RC packets were sent into the TX module via its UART interface.

Output RC packets were captured from the RX module’s UART interface.

A logic analyzer was used to capture UART signals on both TX and RX sides to measure the physical time interval.

Test Conditions: 250Hz packet rate, 400Kbps UART baud rate.

Result: The total elapsed time from the start bit of the TX UART packet to the stop bit of the RX UART packet was 7.88 ms.

Summary: This 7.88 ms total delay accounts for both UART serialization times, airtime RF transmission, and MCU processing—offering low latency suitable for real-time control and telemetry.

What is the size/weight of drone unit?

What is actual data rate over the air?

And… 0% PER? This I find a bit hard to belive.

The hardware is only available from one source that seems to require a log-in to even look at. I’m still not clear on why.

It just looks like a ELRS module and receiver?

From what i can find it’s a port of ELRS 3.5 to a Chinese radio module that combines mcu and radio on one chip, probably 433mhz.
