hello everyone. I’ve got two radio telemetry modules. The radio modules are interchangeable, any one can be used as ground or air module. I can individually connect them to mission planner and load the setting. The settings of both look to be the same. But they are not binding to each other. The green light on both modules keeps on blinking. My flight controller is Pixhawk .Any suggestion or help is much appreciated.
Assuming you mean SiK radios. Share screen shots of the two radio’s settings, and share what kind of telemetry radios they are. If they are the same then they should bind, but without any data it’s hard for us to help. Cheaper knock-off radios some times have mystery errors but let’s deal with the basics first.
Thank you @Allister for replying, I loaded settings of both radios using MissionPlanner v1.3.76, what i did is to plug-in both radios one by one into laptop, and load their settings.
i also attach screenshots for both air and ground unit, as well as the radios that i am using. As shown in laptop, on COM8 i have ground unit, and on COM7 i have air unit settings.
Why such an old version of Mission Planner? Update to latest, then select the com port the radio is connected to the ground station on. Don’t connect, go to the Sik Radio setting page and press the Load Settings button. See if both sides populate.
@dkemxr i have also tried it on Mission Planner v1.3.83. Infact i first tried on MP v1.3.83, when i connect one of the radios to my laptop and other is connected to drone, and i click on load settings, both sides DON’T populate. Only local fields get popuated
Just to be sure you have not connected Mission Planner to the radio when Loading the Settings, only selected the Com port? Do you have the Serial Protocol set to Mavlink2 on the serial port you are using on the Flight Controller? What “Pixhawk” is it?
I am using Pixhawk 2.4.8
Yes serial protocol is set to Mavlink2, though i will recheck
Those settings look like the defaults, and that’s good. They should work on that. They look like knock-off radios and those a famous for being junk. Not really sure there’s much to do but see if you can get your money back.
which Sik radios i should use?
can you kindly share details or pic of them? @Allister
Radios from 3DR (Mro) and HolyBro are good. These radios are in the ~$75 range so if you find something selling for $25 or so they will be junk. A lot of Radios claiming 500mw will be junk. There are a couple posts about the Micoair telemetry modules but I have no experience with them.
Did you try swapping Tx/Rx?
The green LEDs are the key. They indicate that the radios have “handshaked” with another. If the radios connect with each other, they will glow solid even without any data. Make certain that ECC is the same on both radios (either ON or OFF) and that the NetID is the same. Also check your antennas. SMA connectors can be confusing.
FWIW; I also had problems with my SiK radios not connecting. I finally traced the problem to the USB-B hub mine was plugged into. There just wasn’t enough current available to power everything I had plugged into it. I switched to the USB-C where it was the only connection and my problem disappeared. USB-C has a significantly higher current and power rating than USB-B.
