The only way you could call an X9D or a QX7 “Old School” is if you want ACCESS. Other than that those radios run the the latest OpenTx firmware. I’m happy to adopt the latest tech but to call these radios Old School is premature.
Over the Air firmware update. 24 channels, lower latency. It’s not compatible with ACCTS though so if you already have hardware it’s a tough sell. For the new buyer its painless.
I’m in the same dilemma w/ my X9D+. I’d like to pickup the full color screen. Just like @ChrisOlson, I had the first gen X12S Horus; bought on preorder. I didn’t like it either but was able to sell it on RCGroups only a few weeks after buying it. Now, did FrSky improve on the X12S shortcomings in the X10S? I also own a Jeti DS-24 which also has Lua scripting too. So, what’s the final answer on Taranis v. Horus?
Dave so you prefer 10S over Standard X9D+ as a better option? What are the key difference you like and why?
One of my friend claimed last month that his Taranis X9D+ Got infected by a virus and he had flush his radio??! Never heard that before or is he smoking better stuff…
As far as Futaba goes, I know its a different category of systems. You pay top dollars for reliability and high standards of manufacturing. To me its like iphone vs. Andriod phone battle. high end receiver is like $200 dollars and paying extra for Brand name as well.
When I have time I will put a spreadsheet together to compare the feature functionality, reliability, ease of use etc. we can all update it together and we will have a point of reference.
I put one together for LiDARs on DIYDrone site once. It became pretty popular and helpful for people.

That’s about it. Oh, I guess the Horus has one more pot. But if you need more switches and/or knobs the X9E supports up to 20 of 'em (and has the internal board for it).
Otherwise there is just no real significant difference in performance or features of the two and they both run the same operating system.

There is also one other significant difference, and that is with Lua scripting. Scripts written for the Taranis are not compatible with the Horus, as the Horus uses “widgets” for its TN display. While Lua scripting for the Taranis is very well documented, it is not for the Horus.
If you use a “packaged” script like yaapu, then no problem. If you write your own like I do it is more difficult on the Horus. I have a custom script for helicopters that has dual-needle tachometer for rotor/engine rpm, gauges for engine temp, generator, SOG and KIAS etc… Various people have tried (unsuccessfully) to port it to the Horus.
I can program with Lua just fine. It’s not all that different from C++ but some things are different like functions() have to be declared ahead of a call, variables are declared on-the-fly, and so on. But unfortunately I don’t have time to do custom programming for other people.
SmartDave convinced me and I have ordered the Horus X10S. I am hoping that I will like it. As I am a hardcore Futaba guy and I have only 3 Taranis X9D compatible Rx so far, may not be be bad idea to switch to Access. If I really like it, then I will sell my X9D
Now the questions coming to mind are;
R9D would not work with X10S…What is my alternative for long range?
X10S receiver choices are little confusing so far to me;
a) Archer
b) Rx Series
Still trying to understand the differences. Not sure if these Rx has an S Port and what’s the advantage of FPort?
