I need to build a small drone for inside steel pipes inspection for my university project. Kindly suggest some GPS denied option for positioning well of the drone. I found 8-10 options in Arducopter site but did not understand what will be best for me, kindly suggest. Pipe diameter may be >= 1 meter.
Please help me out.
And we don’t know the requirements. Navigating in an unlit, featureless pipe with moving features (ex. flowing sewage) is pretty hard.
PS. If straight sections aren’t too long 3d lidar based SLAM may work if the pipes aren’t too reflective.
3D lidar slam supported to arducopter? I had gone through Google cartographer… Came to know arducopter only support 2D lidar data!!
Is this right??
Can we do the positioning in such cases with 6 lidar/sonar like up, down, left, right, forward , backward??
You would need a companion computer running SLAM, Ardupilot supports 2D lidar for obstacle avoidance only IIRC.
6 cardinal rangefinder may be sufficient for obstacle avoidance but Ardupilot can’t do SLAM on its own.
